Freedom

Freedom

Finding My Queen explores the complexities of romance, desire, companionship, and the human search for union. Drawing inspiration from the game of chess, the work centers around the absence of the Queen—the most powerful and versatile piece on the board. Although she is physically missing, her influence is felt throughout the painting, suggesting that absence can hold just as much power as presence. The empty space left by the Queen becomes a representation of longing: the feeling of searching for something—or someone—that has not yet found its place in our lives. In chess, the Queen possesses the greatest freedom of movement, able to travel across the board in almost any direction. This becomes a metaphor for the complexity of love itself: unpredictable, powerful, and capable of changing the entire course of the game. Her absence raises the question of whether we are searching for another person to complete us, or searching for a part of ourselves that we have yet to discover. The painting explores the tension between independence and partnership, vulnerability and strength, and the desire to both be chosen and to choose. Finding My Queen is ultimately not simply about finding a romantic partner, but about the journey toward a connection that feels meaningful and transformative. The missing Queen represents possibility rather than emptiness—a presence waiting to be discovered, and a reminder that sometimes the search for love is also a search for identity, belonging, and wholeness.
